Long Time No See

Well HELLO.  It’s been a very long time since I posted on this blog, nearly a year!  Interestingly, I’ve noticed many of the blogs I follow are in the same place, not posting, not sharing.  I’m not sure what that’s about and certianly can only speak for myself.  I could say I’ve been busy, we all are!  I could say I have lost interest….that is probably true.  But let’s just move along.

I feel like I’ve been in a fog since last year.  Some highlights….In June we went to Pacific City, a place we love so much!!   the rest of the summer was lake trips and smoke.  Seriously, that’s what I remember most from last summer.  Wildfires in the west, both locally and not so local, (CA and BC) filled our air with smoke.  Maybe I was in a fog?!

In late August my son and I journeyed to Austin TX for a lovely family wedding on Labor Day weekend!  It was a wonderful trip and such a beautiful wedding!

We added another pup to our family.  Born in September, we picked him up November 1st!  Meet our boy ‘Gansett!  He has the same mother as Mae but his father is a red and white Border Collie, smooth coat.  He is a sweet boy!

My only other comment today will be this….”life is confusing and people are insane”

I will fill in the blanks soon!   let’s catch up~

Mountain Mess

Well, Saturday I did go out shopping looking for running shoes.  And I bought….RUBBER BOOTS!  That’s right, you can’t run in those. Well, you can, but it would be sloppy and awkward.

I am so thrilled to have found these though because they are the perfect thing for walking the dog in the morning. The fields we play in are soaking wet this time of year and last fall and early winter my feet were soaked every day! These fit perfectly, YAY!!
Sunday I went out again looking for the perfect running shoe.  No luck.  I went to Road Runner Sports and tried on about 6 pairs.  I really am a lot like Goldie Locks here ….too small, too big, rock plate, toe guard, bad tread…ugh!  On Wednesday I checked out one more local store but had no luck.  So finally, after driving my husband nuts talking about running shoes for WEEKS, I ordered another pair of Altras and an Asics GT2000 trail.  The Altras are the neoprene/polartec waterproof MID version of the Lone Peak 3.0  .  I’m not thrilled with the changes to the Lone Peak over the 2.5 version I have but if these are “right” they may be exactly what I’m looking for to wear in the mountains through early winter (gaiters!!)  The Asics are the fall back pair.
As soon as they both arrive I will give an update….right, because it’s SO exciting to talk about my running shoes….
Okay, on a side note….did I mention (ya probably) what a big fan of Harry Chapin I was?  So, I have Sirius radio and honestly the BEST thing about it is the crazy old gems that pop up as you surf channels.  Awhile ago I heard Taxi and it just is SO INCREDIBLE.   Taxi… go on, take a listen.  “There’s a wildman wizard, he’s hiding in me, illuminating my mind”.   And the part about having “something inside me, not what my life’s about”?  oh man!
The funny thing about this is that I kept singing it, playing it, yelling it, writing it down, working out to it etc.  And I thought about a concert I went to back in the 70’s.  Harry came out after the concert and talked to us, shook our hands.  It was just us, a small group of high school friends who hung around after the show.  He was such a nice, regular guy.  He even signed a leather visor that I was wearing at the time.  ya, a leather visor that had “Budweiser” tooled into it.  To my complete delight, my best friend found a photo of the two of us, circa 1978, and there I am, wearing the visor!  It was completely coincidental too!  Just like that…BAM, I’ve got a photo of me in the visor!!
I must have really been into hats as the newsboy cap on my friend is also mine….

Well, there you have it.  An update from the mountain mess that I am.  Maybe I spend too much time alone with Mae?  ya, maybe… I hope your first week of “fall” is going great!!  Drop me a note.  Got a favorite old song that lights up your day?  Share it!

Versatile Blogger Award

Versatile Blogger

My ever faithful follower and fellow blogger Richard, at The Running Schlub, has nominated me for the Versatile Blogger Award.  I am flattered that he thinks enough of my blog to tag me on his list and I will do my best to play along and answer the questions!  Besides, you all are probably thankful for a break from Mae posts!
About the Award:

The Versatile Blogger Award is for those blogs that bring something special to your life.  In picking your nominees, you are to consider the quality of the writing, the uniqueness of the subjects covered, the level of love displayed in the words on the virtual page.  Or, of course, the quality of the photographs and the level of love displayed in the taking of them.

The Rules:

“Rules” are as follows: Answer the questions you have been given, nominate 10(ish) other bloggers and give them their own set of questions to answer.

So there you have it.  Now on to the questions…..

  1. What is something people might be surprised to learn about you?

Well, my husband gives me a hard time about this, rightly so!  But I just love Axl Rose!

axl-rose-then-and-now

  1.  What is your current go-to workout song?

I have all kinds of playlists but lately the one song that gets me going is:

J. Geils Band, Ain’t Nothing But a House Party.

  1.   What is one place on your travel must-see bucket list?

Well, I’m not a bucket list type and the travel bug has yet to really bite me but I DO have a list of places I want to visit.          It’s hard to pick just one… Maybe New Zealand, no I mean Iceland, or Ireland but maybe the easiest thing is to start close to home and see this: Arches National Park, Utah

  1.     What is your favorite distance to run?

I like to keep things short so I’m basically a 5k runner  bumping up to a nice 5 miler if I can.

  1.     What would you do with a $1000 gift card?

Mother -Daughter shopping spree!  (see #10)

  1.     If you could choose to do anything for a day what would it be?

As lame as it sounds , I am SO chronically sleep deprived that if I had a day to do anything I would SLEEP!

  1.     What would you sing at Karaoke night?

I have never sung at karaoke!  But if I had the opportunity I would sing:

Two Pina Coladas   I would need at least 2 pina coladas to do it!

This Van Halen song would  be a good alternate!   I’m always channeling Dave….

  1.     If you could travel back in time what year would you travel back to?

Hmmm, I’m torn here.  Either 1978, if I could be the age I was then, because it would be fun to see if it really was as           awesome as I remember it!  Or, the 1940’s , because I would love to know my mom as a young woman!  She was so           fabulous!

  1.     Aside from necessities, what is the one thing you could not go a day without?

CHAPSTICK!  I am a nut about lipstick and chapstick and have them stashed everywhere!

sunbum

  1.   How many pairs of shoes do you have?

If you mean running shoes, that’s easy, I have 4.  2 of which are retired….But all shoes?  Oh my goodness.  My                    husband would say, too many!”   but that is just wrong because you can NEVER have too many shoes!  Though admittedly I have a few pairs in my closet that are “new in box” so possibly I am a bit of a shoe hoarder?  Though it’s ok to hoard running shoes because you never know when they will be discontinued.  In fact there is a pair of Brooks “new in box” under the bed!   And then there are all the other athletic shoes, snowshoes, snowboard boots, xc ski boots, surf booties and old smelly climbing shoes….  My closets are jammed pack. The ridiculous thing is that all I usually wear is a pair of flip flops!  Or these if I feel “fancy”:

This has been fun and I hope you have learned a little more about me!  I need to think about who I should tag to share this Versatile Blogger Award!  Thanks Richard for including me!
